As a creative individual, I've always been attracted to other creatives that did their thing and created a platform for themselves. I've had many blogs in the past (Tumblr, Wordpress, etc.) but starting Groove Slang is my first official go at tangibly putting my ideas out there in a more constructive way. The following blogs are outlets that I visit on a daily basis to gain inspiration, confidence, knowledge, and all around enjoy reading:
I am OBSESSED with designlovefest. I honestly don't know why this blog isn't my home page. It's my #1 go-to source for inspiration. I feel like I just jive with the founder Bri Emery's aesthetic and general interests. I find her to be a huge role model in terms of the "creative girl" who made a living out of doing/seeing/executing what she's into. If I had to credit any one source that inspired me to start this blog, it would definitely be DLF. Linked through the photos below are some of my favorite posts from the site:
Man Repeller is probably the site that has the most authentic tone of voice to me. I could sit around and crack up at their posts all day. I enjoy following their Snapchat and also seeing how they interact with their readers on Twitter and Facebook. The name of the site is hilarious, the writers are hilarious, and I especially love that they pretty much create 100% of their own content via bright and bold photographic still-lifes and illustrations like the ones below:
If I had to pick one blog that I wanted to sound the most like, I feel like Man Repeller accomplishes all of my tone aspirations. I can tell by watching their Snapchats that working for their headquarters must be an absolute party at all times.
I love A Pinch of Lovely because I love Krystal, who runs the blog! She and I work together on a pretty consistent basis because I photograph a lot of her outfit posts for the blog. Working with her has let me see a little behind the scenes action of what it's like to really be a fashion blogger. Krystal does a really good job of being relatable and funny while still being super professional and polished. She works really hard to provide authentic content for her blog and I love how thorough she is. I also appreciate how she is committed to helping her readers be stylish while also on a budget!
Packing up tonight for somewhere sunny! ☀️🌴Excited to head to Key West tomorrow - anyone have suggestions for a first timer? (Y'all were such a BIG help during my cruise planning!) All I really know is that I'm packing up lots of swimsuits and, I'm dragging @hauteofftherack to the bird conservatory so I can get a photo with a parrot on my shoulder. 📸🙆🏼 | Get the info on this @everythingbutwater x @robinpiccone swimsuit now on @liketoknow.it 👉🏼 http://liketk.it/2oCYR #whitedelights #liketkit
I came across Oui We a while back after photographing the Southern Design Week in New Orleans. I had heard about some book called New Orleans Style and realized the author, Andi Eaton, was heavily involved with Southern Design Week as well. I realized she had the coolest style and I've been following all of her social media platforms ever since. Oui We is really cool because I feel like Andi has a more casual approach to style and blogging. She is basically a professional traveler, so her blog posts have insane imagery and lots of useful tips for remaining stylish and comfortable on the go. I love the vintage feel I get from her content and how laid back and almost spiritual her blog posts are. I feel like her branding is all about being comfortable in your own skin, and that's very refreshing.
Haute off the Rack is another local fashion blogger that I work with from time to time. I love to keep up with her posts because she is literally always SOMEWHERE doing something crazy cool! Jenn recently was in Miami for Swim Week, she was also recently in California launching her new purse she designed (WHAT) She's always fabulously dressed at all times, and reading her blog makes me feel very fancy (even when she's talking about eating Chick-fil-a on the couch!)
Groove Slang is a product of me reading all of these amazing blogs and adding my own twist to things. I LOVE discovering new blogs though, so tell me- what are your favorites? Leave a link in the comments below!
